Digital Storytelling
To be honest right now I am a bit nervous about doing this project (as I am kind of figuring this out on my own because I missed the last 2 classes...so any helpful hints would be appreciated!) Right now I definitely can related to those teachers who I have talked about who are hesitant to try anything new especially when instructions are not clear or have been missed. I do feel as though this will be a good activity to use with students in a variety of ways such as in story mapping, sequencing, and characterization. But for right now, I will muttle through...happy storytelling. I look forward to see the creativity of our class members!

We saw about five examples in class last week and rated them according to the digital story elements handout (that is in our class wiki). One of them told the story about Native American boarding schools, but Dr. Schmidt said it was a digital "report", not a true digital story. She wants it to be personal, no researchy things. :-) Because it doesn't have to be super long, that makes it easier to manage. I just did a digital story in another class, and we watched them all. Some of them just went on and on and on...definitely lost interest halfway through. So keeping it short and sweet is key I think. They're fun to create. Coming up with an idea is the hardest part I'd say. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree that deciding on the idea is hard. It's also not easy deciding how to tell the story. However, what's where the storyboard comes ine, helping you clear your head in planning your story. In fact, it is a critical preproduction step because the actual production can go smoothly if you have your storyboard clearly laid out! Keep an open mind and enjoy the ride!
ReplyDeleteI have the "podcast" for you for our class last time. I will have it for you in class this week if you want it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's good that even though you were nervous about this activity and could relate to those teachers who don't want to use technology, you asked for help. I think that's an important difference.
